The Government Is Still Investigating UAP — What Does That Actually Mean?

The UAP phenomenon has entered a very different era. This is no longer simply a subject built around eyewitness stories and grainy photographs.

The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) continues to collect, analyze and publicly release information concerning unidentified anomalous phenomena. In July 2026, AARO added new scientific material to its public UAP records collection and released its FY2025 UAP Annual Report.

Official military material released during 2026 also includes infrared and other sensor recordings of objects that initially could not be identified. One military report described a diamond-shaped UAP reportedly moving at approximately 434 knots and detectable through short-wave infrared.

Does this prove extraterrestrial spacecraft are visiting Earth? No.

But it establishes something important: military personnel and sophisticated sensors sometimes encounter phenomena that require further investigation. Some cases ultimately receive ordinary explanations, while insufficient information can prevent others from being conclusively identified.

That leaves us with the question at the heart of the phenomenon:

If even advanced military sensors occasionally capture something we cannot immediately identify—what exactly are we seeing?
